Mamurt Kale

MAMURT KALE Turkey.

On the Yunt mountain between Kaikos (Bakirçay) and Hermos (Gediz), to the S of Kinik and near the village of Ortülü. There are no remains on the plateau except the Temple of Demeter and the portico around it. However, in the SE part of the plateau are dwellings for priests and other personnel. A Doric temple in antis, with an altar on its axis, was aligned NW-SE in the middle of the N portico of a sacred area 67 m square. An inscription on the architrave blocks dates it to the time of Philetairos. The E porticos, which are a little longer, are U-shaped and open to the SE.
